The Enugu State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that the country home of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Frank Mba, in Ezimo, Udenu Local Government Area, was attacked and that his parents or relatives were targeted for kidnapping.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Command clarified that no such incident occurred. According to police authorities, the false claims misrepresented an incident that took place on Thursday, 18th September 2025, around 8 p.m., when operatives on routine patrol in the Ezimo community responded swiftly to a distress call and repelled an armed robbery attack.
During the exchange of gunfire, a police officer sustained gunshot wounds and later died in hospital despite medical efforts to save him. One male suspect has since been arrested and is assisting investigators, while a manhunt is underway for the fleeing gang members.
The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the operatives for their swift response and urged them to build on the leads already gathered in tracking down the remaining suspects. He further reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to tackling violent crimes and ensuring public safety across the state.
