The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced ongoing efforts to form a broad-based political coalition ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, positioning itself as a unifying force among opposition parties aiming to wrest power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, the National Chairman of the ADC, Chief Ralphs Okey Nwosu, said discussions are already underway with senior figures across various opposition platforms to forge what he described as a “mega coalition” capable of delivering credible leadership and driving a new political direction for the country.
“This is not just an ADC agenda. It is a national rescue mission. We are working with committed leaders from other opposition parties to give Nigerians a genuine alternative in 2027,” Nwosu stated.
The ADC chairman also took aim at the current administration, urging President Bola Tinubu to prioritize electoral reforms. He called for a cleanup of the electoral system to ensure free, fair, and credible polls—warning that the health of Nigeria’s democracy depends on it.
On the economy, Chief Nwosu expressed grave concern over rising poverty levels, persistent inflation, and worsening insecurity across the country. He criticized what he described as the politicization of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), warning that political interference in monetary policy could derail economic recovery.
“The independence of the Central Bank is critical. We cannot afford to play politics with monetary policies at a time when Nigerians are struggling to survive. The CBN must be allowed to function autonomously,” he said.
During the briefing, Chief Nwosu also presented the party’s flag and certificate of return to the ADC governorship candidate for Anambra State, signaling the party’s preparedness for the upcoming off-cycle election in the state.
The ADC’s coalition strategy, combined with calls for electoral and economic reform, marks a significant move in the buildup to the 2027 polls, with the party positioning itself as a key player in reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape.
