The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, AIG Adegoke M. Fayoade, has cautioned officers under his command against the unlawful and prolonged detention of suspects, as well as the inappropriate involvement in civil matters. He issued the warning during a strategic lecture session with officers at the Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos.
While commending the personnel for their efforts in combating crime across Lagos and Ogun States, AIG Fayoade underscored the importance of upholding the highest standards of professionalism and accountability in the discharge of police duties. He reminded officers that every action—and inaction—will be subject to scrutiny, particularly in how they respect and protect the rights of citizens.
The AIG emphasized that police officers are entrusted with safeguarding the public and must avoid any behavior that undermines public confidence, including meddling in civil disputes that fall outside the purview of criminal investigation. He stressed that such practices erode the credibility of the force and could lead to disciplinary action.
In addition to addressing operational misconduct, AIG Fayoade urged officers to eschew all forms of corruption and misconduct, reiterating the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ethical conduct and community-oriented policing. He encouraged personnel to remain proactive, effective, and responsive in their service to the public, stating that professionalism and integrity must define every officer’s conduct.
The session concluded with a renewed call for discipline and dedication as the Zone intensifies efforts to maintain law and order across its jurisdiction.
