The Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria has congratulated AIG Tunji Olatunji Disu on his appointment as the new Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a press statement dated February 26, 2026, and signed by its President, Olalekan Olabulo, the association described the appointment as a strategic decision rooted in merit, competence, and proven performance. CRAN said the development reflects confidence in Disu’s professionalism and capacity to strengthen internal security across the country.
The association noted that the new Inspector-General’s career trajectory demonstrates operational excellence and dedication to service. As Commander of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos, Disu was credited with implementing intelligence-driven crime-fighting strategies aimed at improving public safety. He also served as Head of the Intelligence Response Team, where he coordinated sensitive security operations.
CRAN further highlighted his leadership experience as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and later in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, describing his tenure as marked by crisis management and administrative discipline. His subsequent role as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, was also cited as evidence of his institutional reform credentials.
According to the association, Disu’s participation in specialised training programmes in Nigeria and abroad — covering areas such as small arms smuggling, cybercrime, forensic investigations, and strategic leadership — has equipped him to address emerging threats including terrorism, kidnapping, banditry, and organised crime.
CRAN stated that at a critical period in Nigeria’s security landscape, it expects renewed emphasis on intelligence-led policing, inter-agency collaboration, improved officers’ welfare, and adherence to the rule of law and human rights standards.
The association expressed confidence that Disu would deploy his experience and reform-oriented approach to reposition the Nigeria Police Force for greater efficiency, accountability, and public trust.
CRAN also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining constructive engagement with the police in the interest of peace, safety, and national stability.
