The Director General of the Delta State Bureau for Communications and Orientation, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, has lauded the efforts of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Delta State under the leadership of Commander Abubakar Wada for its continued success in the fight against illicit drugs.
In an official statement released in Asaba, Dr. Oghenesivbe highlighted the agency’s notable achievements, including the arrest and prosecution of 322 suspected drug offenders, disruption of both local and interstate drug trafficking networks, and the rehabilitation and counseling of drug abuse victims.
He commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his unwavering support, which includes the recent provision of new Hilux vans and other logistics to security agencies, bolstering NDLEA’s capacity to tackle drug-related crimes across the state.
Dr. Oghenesivbe emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between NDLEA, the State Orientation Bureau, NGOs, and local stakeholders through initiatives like the “War Against Drug Abuse” (WADA) campaign. He noted that the establishment of WADA clubs in secondary schools has significantly raised awareness among youths about the dangers of drug use.
Looking ahead, the Bureau Chief announced that the second phase of the “Drug-Free Delta” campaign is set to commence. This phase will expand sensitization efforts to 68 additional secondary schools, universities, and other higher institutions across the state’s three senatorial districts.
“The seizure of trucks transporting large quantities of cannabis and other illicit substances is a major win,” said Oghenesivbe. “Commander Wada and his team deserve our deepest appreciation for their tireless service and commitment.”
He reaffirmed the state government’s dedication to curbing drug abuse in line with Governor Oborevwori’s peace and security-focused MORE Agenda.
“The NDLEA remains a vital partner in our quest for a drug-free Delta. We are committed to deepening this partnership to safeguard our youth and secure our communities,” he concluded.
