A strong message of discipline, integrity and zero tolerance for misconduct has set the tone for a new generation of police officers as the Nigeria Police Academy concluded its five-day orientation programme for Regular Course 12 cadets.
The intensive programme, held from February 23 to 27, 2026, was structured to formally integrate the newly admitted cadets into the Academy’s academic, professional and ethical culture. Beyond ceremonial welcome activities, the orientation provided a detailed briefing on institutional standards, operational expectations and the demands of leadership within the Nigeria Police Force.
Throughout the week, the cadets engaged with senior officers from both the Professional and Academic Wings of the Academy. Interactive sessions featured the Commandant, the Academy Provost, the Registrar, the Commissioner of Police (Courses and Training), the Dean of Cadet Affairs, and the Head of the Department of Guidance and Counselling, among others. The discussions focused on academic excellence, professional conduct, leadership development and the code of ethics guiding future commissioned officers.
Addressing the cadets, the Commandant, Patrick A. Atayero, stressed that their admission into the Academy was both a privilege and a responsibility. He underscored the importance of discipline, integrity and strict adherence to institutional regulations, reminding them that the Academy maintains firm sanctions for any breach of its Code of Conduct.
The cadets were also taken on guided tours of key facilities within the institution and received lectures on strategies for academic success, resilience and professional growth. They were encouraged to remain focused and committed to the ideals of service, patriotism and accountability.
In furtherance of the Academy’s zero-tolerance stance on drug abuse, the Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency delivered a special lecture on the dangers and long-term consequences of substance abuse. The session was led by DCN Maimuna Mohammad Garba, who emphasized the legal, health and career implications of illicit drug involvement, reinforcing the Academy’s resolve to produce disciplined and morally upright officers.
The orientation programme concluded with a charge to the cadets to uphold the core values of the institution and remain committed to excellence.
The Nigeria Police Academy reaffirmed its mandate to train and develop competent officers capable of addressing contemporary security challenges while upholding professionalism and service to the nation.
