DSP Afolayan Gbenga Assumes Office as Zone 2 Police Public Relations Officer

The Nigeria Police Force has appointed DSP Afolayan Gbenga as the new Police Public Relations Officer of Zone 2 Police Command Headquarters, Lagos, following the recent posting and deployment of Police Public Relations Officers approved by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM.

DSP Afolayan, an indigene of Ijero Local Government Area of Ekiti State, enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on December 20, 2018, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police under Regular Course 1. He underwent professional training at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics.

He has further strengthened his professional capacity through specialized courses, including the Combat Operations Course at the Police Mobile Force Training School, Ila-Orangun, Osun State, and the Operational Leadership and Command Course at the Police Staff College, Jos, Plateau State.

The new Zone 2 PPRO has served in several strategic roles across commands and formations. His previous postings include Enuowa Division, Fanibi Division, the Commissioner of Police Monitoring Unit, and the office of the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, all within the Ondo State Command. He also served as Personal Assistant to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police at Zone 17 Headquarters and to the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command. Until his recent deployment, DSP Afolayan was attached to the Police Special Fraud Unit, Ikoyi, Lagos.

With broad experience in administration, operations, investigations, and police public relations, DSP Afolayan has expressed his commitment to strengthening trust-based communication between the Police and the public. He emphasized his intention to promote proactive engagement, transparency, and effective collaboration with communities across Lagos and Ogun States.

The Zone 2 Police Command has called on members of the public, media organizations, and other stakeholders to extend their usual cooperation and support to the new Police Public Relations Officer as he assumes his responsibilities.
