As part of efforts to cushion economic hardship during Eid-el-Kabir, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, representing Lagos East Senatorial District, has distributed food packs to 12,000 households across the district’s 16 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas.
The outreach, conducted on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, also included the donation of 75 cows and 200 rams to traditional rulers, religious leaders, political figures, and key community stakeholders.
Each food pack—containing rice and garri—was branded with the names of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and Senator Abiru, reinforcing alignment with the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and ongoing national food security efforts.
The initiative, under Senator Abiru’s #DoingGood programme, specifically targeted vulnerable groups including the elderly, persons with disabilities, women, and unemployed youths. Beneficiaries were selected through an online nomination process aimed at ensuring transparency and inclusivity.
Speaking at the distribution centre in his Ikorodu constituency office, Senator Abiru reiterated his commitment to community welfare, especially during major religious celebrations.
“This programme reflects our continued commitment to the welfare of the people of Lagos East, particularly during seasons of spiritual reflection and celebration like Eid-el-Kabir,” he said.
He also called for collaborative efforts across all levels of government to address ongoing economic challenges.
The gesture was applauded by local leaders, including Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, former Deputy Governor of Lagos State and APC apex leader in Ikorodu Division.
Senator Abiru’s broader interventions in the district include digital skills training, business support grants, education aid, and community development initiatives designed for long-term impact.
