The Eko Tourism Foundation (ETF) has joined the global community in commemorating World Tourism Day 2025, aligning with this year’s theme, “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.”
In a statement released on Saturday, Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Governing Board, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said the theme resonates strongly with the Foundation’s vision of transforming Lagos into Africa’s foremost tourism destination through innovation, inclusivity, and sustainability.
“Tourism is a powerful driver of growth and job creation. Lagos, with its vibrant culture, festivals, nightlife, heritage and creativity, is uniquely positioned to lead Africa’s tourism renaissance,” Mohammed stated.
He highlighted some of the Foundation’s strategic initiatives, including the ETF Trust Fund, ETF Academy, the Experience Lagos Project, and the Annual International Conference, which are designed to build a globally competitive, locally beneficial, and environmentally responsible tourism ecosystem.
The ETF Chairman further called on government, investors, industry players, and residents of Lagos to collaborate in driving the state’s tourism agenda. According to him, such partnerships are critical in positioning Lagos not only as Nigeria’s commercial hub but also as its tourism capital, “where the world comes to experience history, culture, innovation and hospitality.”
World Tourism Day is observed annually on September 27, with stakeholders around the world reflecting on the sector’s role in economic growth, cultural exchange, and sustainable development.
