The Enugu State Police Command has announced the arrest of four armed robbery suspects and the recovery of three locally fabricated firearms and other incriminating exhibits during separate operations across the state.
The operations, carried out under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, reflect the Command’s sustained commitment to combating crime and enhancing public safety.
On 17th March 2025, at about 11:40 p.m., operatives attached to Ikirike Division and the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad, while on patrol along Agbani Road, responded swiftly to a distress call. They arrested one Okechukwu Anthony, aged 25, who attempted to rob a male victim of a smart wristwatch. A locally fabricated pistol, resembling a Beretta but without magazine or ammunition, was recovered from the suspect.
On the same date at about 3:15 p.m., operatives of the 9th Mile Division responded to credible information about an ongoing armed robbery at Uzo-Nwa Money, Ngwo, in Udi Local Government Area. The suspects fled on sighting the police, but with assistance from vigilant residents, two men, Chukwudi Stephen Ngwu (36) and Chibuike Ohaekelem (23) were arrested, while one accomplice escaped. A locally made pistol, also Beretta-like without magazine or ammunition, was recovered alongside a bag of rice that had been robbed from the victim. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects boarded the victim’s tricycle from New Market, Enugu, and robbed him at the scene.
Earlier, on 15th September 2025, at about 4:10 a.m., operatives attached to Ogui Division, in collaboration with members of the public, arrested Oluchukwu Stanley (29). The suspect allegedly scaled a residential fence in Ogui-Nike, Enugu, in an attempt to rob a male resident of his phone. He was subdued after the victim raised an alarm, and a locally made pistol was recovered.
The Police Command confirmed that all suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of ongoing investigations.
Commending the operatives for their professionalism, CP Giwa reiterated the Command’s determination to rid Enugu State of criminal elements. He also urged residents to remain vigilant, security-conscious, and report suspicious persons or activities promptly to the nearest police station.
