As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen rural security and enhance public confidence in policing, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, on June 13, 2025, conducted a strategic patrol across several communities in Oji-River Local Government Area. The operation is in line with his mandate to maintain a visible police presence and ensure the safety of residents, particularly in underserved rural areas.
During the visit, CP Giwa toured key locations including Oji-River, Achi, and Inyi communities. He also stopped at the Inyi Police Division and the Oji-River Area Command Headquarters, where he met with officers and conducted on-the-ground assessments of local security conditions. The Commissioner emphasized the importance of vigilance and operational readiness in all divisions.
A significant part of the tour included a visit to the Premier Police College, Oji-River (PCO), where CP Giwa was received by the College Commandant, CP Regina Udoette, psc, mnips. She conducted a guided tour of vital facilities within the college, after which the Commissioner addressed the newly recruited Police Constables currently undergoing training. He encouraged the recruits to fully commit to the newly upgraded and modernised training curriculum, approved by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
In his remarks, CP Giwa stressed the importance of discipline, honesty, diligence, and courage, urging the recruits to internalise these values as the foundation of effective policing. He reminded them of the weight of the responsibility ahead, noting that upon completion of their training, they would be tasked with serving Nigeria and its citizens with professionalism and integrity.
The Commissioner also visited a joint security unit comprising personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army at the Inyi Police Division. He commended their collaborative efforts in maintaining peace in the area and encouraged continued synergy and dedication to duty. At the Oji-River Area Command Headquarters, he delivered a similar message, charging officers to remain proactive and committed to their core responsibilities.
Accompanying the Commissioner during the patrol were several senior officers including ACP Lucky Seibai, Area Commander, Oji-River; CSP Henry Obili, Chief Superintendent of Police Operations; CSP Kanawa Ahinda, Second-in-Command of No. 3 Police Mobile Force Squadron Enugu; and CSP Komo Folmi, Commanding Officer, Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU Base 10 Enugu). Also present were CSP Ikechukwu Okoro, Divisional Police Officer, Oji-River, and DSP John Owoicho, Operations Officer, Distress Rapid Squad (DRS), among other senior personnel.
The patrol reinforces the Enugu State Command’s commitment to effective policing, community engagement, and proactive strategies to safeguard lives and property in all parts of the state, particularly rural communities often vulnerable to emerging security threats.
