In a bold move to deepen grassroots development and economic empowerment, the Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon. (Princess) Surah Olayemi Animashaun, FHTI, launched a major empowerment programme. The event, held at the Epe Local Government Secretariat, marked a significant milestone in her administration’s commitment to people-centered governance.
Thousands of residents gathered at the Secretariat to witness what many described as a transformative moment in the history of local governance in Epe. The empowerment programme featured the distribution of income-generating tools such as tricycles, industrial sewing machines, modern hair dryers, grinding machines, fishing nets, life jackets, large-capacity coolers, as well as assorted soft drinks and bottled water. Each item was carefully selected to support local entrepreneurs, enhance productivity, and create sustainable means of livelihood for beneficiaries.
The initiative is part of Hon. Animashaun’s “People First, Progress Always” agenda, which has consistently focused on inclusive growth and direct community impact. In her address, the Council Chairman thanked the people of Epe for their continued trust and support. She reaffirmed her administration’s resolve to pursue programmes that uplift lives and stimulate the local economy, stating that the empowerment drive was not a one-time event but a continuation of long-term efforts to ensure that no hardworking resident is left behind.
The event drew a high-powered delegation of political and community leaders, lending credibility and support to the exercise. In attendance were Alhaji Akanni Seriki Bamu, Epe Divisional Leader and member of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC); Rt. Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly and GAC member; Hon. Wale Raji, Member of the House of Representatives for Epe Federal Constituency; and Hon. Abiodun Tobun, Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Epe Constituency I. Religious leaders, traditional rulers, youth representatives, and members of various community development committees were also present.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Raymond Oladapo Eturugo, expressed deep gratitude after receiving a brand-new tricycle. He described the intervention as life-changing, stating that it marked a new chapter for him and his family after years of struggling to survive. According to him, the support provided by Hon. Animashaun renewed his faith in government and demonstrated that leadership can be compassionate and impactful.
The programme ended on a high note with chants of praise, emotional testimonies, and widespread appreciation from the community. For many in attendance, the day was more than just a distribution of tools—it was a reaffirmation of leadership that listens, acts, and delivers.
The empowerment initiative is the latest in a series of people-focused programmes being championed by Hon. Animashaun, whose tenure continues to set a standard for grassroots governance and community transformation in Lagos State.
