In a major stride toward sustainable development and improved living standards, the Executive Chairman of Eredo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Ismail Monsuru Akinloye, has commenced the rollout of solar-powered boreholes across communities within the council area.
The Solar Energy Borehole Project, a flagship initiative of the Akinloye administration, is designed to deliver clean, renewable, and consistent access to water, particularly in underserved rural areas where water scarcity has persisted for decades.
As of this phase of implementation, six (6) communities have been selected:
Odo-Iragunshin – Project completed and fully functional.
Ibonwon and Odomola (Kula Nla) – Construction ongoing.
Igbooye, Poka, and Iraye – Site work set to commence immediately after the Sallah holiday.
Speaking on the importance of the project, Hon. Akinloye reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that every ward benefits from sustainable infrastructure that enhances public health and quality of life.
“This initiative goes beyond providing water. It is about dignity, equity, and sustainable progress. No community will be left behind,” the Chairman emphasized.
The deployment of solar technology aligns with global best practices for climate resilience, reducing dependency on erratic power supply and fossil fuel-driven solutions. It also reflects a proactive approach to addressing United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation.
The boreholes are expected to significantly ease the burden on residents, particularly women and children, who bear the brunt of water-fetching duties in these communities.
With this initiative, Eredo LCDA positions itself as a local government area taking decisive action to meet the basic needs of its people while embracing clean energy for the future.
