Expired products In Circulation: Lagos Govt Alerts

The Lagos State Government has alerted residents to be careful when shopping, following the discovery of expired products in circulation.
Already the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency, LASCOPA, is considering prosecuting the owner of Blessed Happy Homes Superstore in Festac, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, for endangering public health by selling expired items.
The supermarket, located on sixth Avenue, thirteen Road, Festac Town, was recently sealed for breaching health and safety regulations.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, said the government is determined to prosecute the offender to serve as a deterrent to others.
During a recent operation, LASCOPA operatives discovered some expired items on the supermarket’s shelves, including baby milk, beverages, body creams, and perfumes.
The manager of the supermarket initially resisted enforcement officers, but legal action followed, resulting in a bench warrant for the owner.
The General Manager of LASCOPA, Mr. Afolabi Solebo, said the owner failed to respond to summons and scheduled to appear before the Magistrate Court at the Lagos Taskforce Headquarters in Bolade–Oshodi today.
Mr. Solebo urged consumers to check expiry dates and product labels carefully before making purchases, emphasizing the prevalence of expired goods in circulation.
