The Kebbi State Police Command has debunked a widely circulated social media report claiming that gunmen invaded a church in Zagami village, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, during Sunday service and abducted several worshippers.
In an official statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Nafiu Abubakar, described the report as entirely false, baseless, and misleading. He stated that the Command had found no evidence of such an incident and warned that the viral publication was capable of inciting fear and undermining public trust in law enforcement.
“The publication is a complete fabrication and appears to be a calculated attempt to mislead the public and discredit the relentless efforts of the police in maintaining law and order in Kebbi State,” said CSP Abubakar.
He further emphasized that no such attack occurred in Zagami village or any other part of the state as described. He urged the public to disregard the misinformation and cautioned media outlets and social media users against spreading unverified stories.
“The Command remains committed to its constitutional duty of protecting lives and property. We call on citizens to support our efforts by sharing only verified information and reporting suspicious activities through the appropriate channels,” CSP Abubakar added.
The Kebbi State Police Command also reassured residents of its continued vigilance and collaboration with communities to preserve peace across the state.
