The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced a string of security successes recorded between May 1 and June 30, 2025, including the arrest of 82 suspects, the foiling of several kidnapping attempts, and the recovery of arms, vehicles, and stolen property. The achievements were disclosed by the Commissioner of Police during a press briefing in Abuja, where he presented what he described as a scorecard of the Command’s crime-fighting efforts for the two-month period.
The operations, guided by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, followed a comprehensive crime-mapping exercise and deployment of targeted action plans across identified hotspots in the territory. A total of 49 cases were reported during the period under review.
Among the major breakthroughs, the Command recorded seven reported kidnapping incidents, resulting in the arrest of 17 suspects and the neutralization of three others. Five kidnapping attempts were also foiled in various communities including Apo Waru, Karshi, Byhazin, Kawo-Bwari, and Abaji. Three suspects were arrested during a botched abduction at Kawo village clinic in Bwari, while three others were killed in a shootout with police operatives.
In response to robbery-related crimes, five cases of armed robbery were recorded and 17 suspects arrested. An additional five robbery attempts—one in Apo and four in Kubwa—were thwarted, leading to six arrests. Recovered from the suspects were four vehicles, a jackknife, military camouflage, and pistol ammunition.
Theft cases numbered six, with nine suspects arrested. In one incident, police recovered ₦79,000 in cash and a range of stolen electronics and personal items. One case of illegal possession of firearms led to the arrest of a suspect found with a locally fabricated pump-action shotgun and expended cartridge. Four suspects were arrested in connection with a one-chance robbery case, while other offenses included attempted homicide, fraud, domestic violence, and rape. The police confirmed 12 rape cases during the period, leading to 10 arrests, with four additional cases under active investigation. Child trafficking also remained a concern, with four cases resulting in the arrest of eight suspects.
The police rescued 21 victims in total. This includes three children linked to trafficking cases, eight abandoned babies handed over to the Social Welfare Centre, and ten rape victims currently receiving support. Firearms recovered by the Command include three AK-47 rifles with magazines, one locally made pistol, one Beretta pistol, one pump-action shotgun, two LAR rifles, and 36 rounds of live ammunition. Additional exhibits seized include walkie-talkies, an axe, knives, a spear, mobile phones, power banks, ATM cards, motorcycles, a generator, and a range of other stolen personal items.
Ten vehicles were recovered from operations conducted by the Durumi Division, Kubwa Division, Central Police Station, and the Anti-One Chance Squad. Two motorcycles linked to kidnapping suspects were also seized.
The Commissioner assured FCT residents that the Command will build on these results by intensifying community engagement, intelligence-led operations, and public awareness initiatives to address the evolving security landscape in the capital. He reaffirmed the police’s commitment to sustaining peace and safety in all parts of the FCT and urged citizens to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities promptly.
