The Federal School of Statistics (FSS), Ibadan, has joined Nigeria’s growing movement to eradicate malaria with the launch of the Geneith Health Competition (GHC) a national health initiative aimed at empowering young people as ambassadors in the fight against malaria.
The official flag-off ceremony, held at the school’s conference room on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, brought together key figures from the academic and health sectors, including the Rector, Mrs. Olugu Mercy Uche; Former Rector, Dr. K.O. Balogun; Deputy Rector, Mr. A.F. Fadayomi; Registrar, Mr. T.M. Mosugu; and the Initiator of the project and CEO of CEOAFRICA, Prince Cletus Ilobanafor.
In her address, the Rector, Mrs. Uche, expressed appreciation to Geneith Pharmaceutical Limited and CEOAFRICA for selecting the institution as a beneficiary of the initiative, describing the project as a vital contribution to national health development. She noted that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasizes affordable and accessible healthcare for all Nigerians.
Mrs. Uche stressed that the campaign’s focus on students as Malaria Ambassadors will instill civic responsibility and encourage active participation in health advocacy across communities. She reaffirmed the institution’s full commitment to ensuring the programme’s success.
Speaking at the event, Prince Ilobanafor described the initiative as more than a competition but a movement for saving lives and promoting leadership among Nigerian youth. He emphasized that eradicating malaria requires community participation beyond government action and urged students to take ownership of their environments through regular sanitation and awareness campaigns.
He also commended Geneith Pharmaceuticals Limited for funding the project and Coatal Forte Softgel for its partnership support, noting that such collaborations between the private sector and educational institutions will accelerate Nigeria’s malaria elimination drive.
The President of the Student Union Government, Sen. E.K. Olugbuyi, pledged the students’ commitment to the campaign, promising active participation through weekly sanitation exercises and health awareness activities.
The event concluded with a collective pledge by the FSS community to champion malaria prevention efforts and serve as advocates of a healthier Nigeria.
