In a major step toward advancing digital transformation and inclusive economic growth, the Federal Government has officially inaugurated the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) regional office in Enugu State. The commissioning, led by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Mr. Bosun Tijani, marks a strategic investment in Nigeria’s Southeast region under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Tijani described the new facility as more than a physical structure—it is a symbol of a national commitment to decentralize opportunities and unlock the vast potential of local innovation.
“This is not just a building—it is a permanent bridge between national policy and local potential,” Tijani stated. “By bringing NITDA closer to the people of the Southeast, we’re ensuring that innovation doesn’t just reach them—it grows with them.”
The Enugu office will serve multiple functions including digital skills training, support for tech startups, regulatory guidance, and collaboration with state governments, academic institutions, and private enterprises. Key initiatives like the 3 Million Technical Talent program will be rolled out from the new hub to equip young Nigerians with globally relevant skills.
Mr. Tijani praised Enugu State for its proactive embrace of technology, singling out Governor Peter Mbah for his leadership in driving a tech-forward agenda.
“We are not just here to witness Enugu’s transformation—we are here to amplify it,” he said. “To the region’s young innovators and entrepreneurs: NITDA is now your home. Use it. Grow through it. Let it be the launchpad for your ideas to reach the world.”
Governor Peter Mbah, who joined the Minister to officially open the facility, underscored the urgent need to diversify Nigeria’s economy through the tech sector. He expressed confidence that investment in information technology holds the key to unlocking economic prosperity at both national and state levels.
“The urgency to diversify our economy has never been greater,” Mbah said. “The opportunities within the IT space are immense, but they must be actively pursued. This new NITDA office is a platform for our youth to gain lifelong, future-ready skills that will shape their role in the global digital economy.”
With this commissioning, Enugu sets a precedent for digital inclusion and innovation-led development in Nigeria’s Southeast, offering a beacon of possibility for regions across the nation.
