In a strategic effort to strengthen regional economic cooperation, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, convened a high-level roundtable with leading figures from the Nigerian private sector on Tuesday, June 4, 2025.
The engagement, held at the Metropolitan Club in Victoria Island, Lagos, focused on aligning private sector priorities with the agenda of the upcoming West Africa Economic Summit (WAES) 2025, scheduled to take place in Abuja from June 20 to 21.
Ambassador Tuggar underscored the vital role of private enterprise in addressing the region’s economic challenges, stating: “WAES is not just about policy; it’s about practical solutions. Your voice will shape the outcomes.” He encouraged frank dialogue on persistent barriers to trade, regulatory inefficiencies, and infrastructure gaps hindering growth across West Africa.
The meeting reflects the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to inclusive economic diplomacy—placing the private sector at the centre of regional development strategies. Attendees welcomed the initiative, noting its potential to redefine cross-border collaboration and accelerate investment-driven growth.
