The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mallam Shehu Mohammed, has ordered a large-scale deployment of personnel and operational equipment for a nationwide seven-day special patrol to enhance road safety during the Sallah festivities.
Speaking during a motor park rally at the Nyanya Central Motor Park in Abuja, Mallam Mohammed stated that the special operation is aimed at ensuring a safer road environment before, during, and after the festive period. He disclosed that 36,000 regular and special marshals have been mobilized for the exercise. In addition, 750 patrol vehicles, 120 ambulances, 25 tow trucks, and over 200 motorbikes will be deployed across the country.
The Corps Marshal explained that the operatives will be responsible for providing prompt rescue services and timely clearance of obstructions on all major roads and critical corridors. He emphasized that the operation is designed to minimize road traffic crashes through effective patrols and sustained public enlightenment campaigns.
Mallam Mohammed further revealed that all commanding officers along 52 identified high-risk corridors have been directed to increase visibility and enforcement activities throughout the operation. These corridors include major routes such as Akwanga–Lafia–Makurdi, Jos–Bauchi–Gombe, Sokoto–Tambuwal–Jega–Birnin Kebbi, Katsina–Kano–Wudil–Dutse–Azare–Potiskum, Kaduna–Saminaka–Jos, Abuja–Kaduna–Kano, Okene–Ogori–Isua–Owo, Makurdi–Otukpo–Obollo Afor–9th Mile, Asaba–Abraka–Ughelli–Warri, Ibadan–Ogere–Sagamu, and Sagamu–Mowe–Lagos, among others.
As part of enforcement efforts, the Corps will operate mobile courts across the country to ensure the prompt prosecution of traffic offenders. Key violations under focus include license violations, poor lane discipline, use of expired or worn-out tyres, failure to carry spare tyres, and the use of mobile phones while driving. The FRSC has also deployed radar guns and breathalysers to detect and deter speeding and drunk driving.
Mallam Mohammed appealed to motorists to obey all traffic rules and cooperate with FRSC personnel and other law enforcement agencies. He urged passengers and commuters to speak out against reckless driving, stressing that road safety is a shared responsibility.
