The Vice Chancellor of the newly established Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, Iyin Ekiti (FUTESI), Professor Gbenga Arebisala, has vowed to build a world-class institution anchored on academic integrity, innovation, and global competitiveness.
Speaking with Radio Nigeria at the university site, Professor Arebisala stated that the school will recruit only competent academic and non-academic staff with proven commitment to excellence and ethics. He emphasized that FUTESI will not tolerate mediocrity, exploitation, or misconduct from its personnel.
“We are building a university that prioritizes quality—no room for lecturers who threaten students or workers who lack purpose,” he said. “We’ll hire scholars, not placeholders. Our staff must be role models, passionate about research and academic development.”
He noted that the institution is guided by a strong governing council, including Senator Binta Masi Garba as Pro-Chancellor, prominent academics, and international experts, ensuring strict adherence to university values.
Admission for FUTESI’s maiden academic session is scheduled to begin in September 2025, with four faculties: Natural and Applied Sciences, Engineering and Environmental Sciences, Computer and Information Technology, and Management Sciences. Programs will include Mechatronics, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Data Science.
Professor Arebisala added that FUTESI’s recruitment process will follow federal character principles and prioritize staff with a passion for innovation and societal impact. He assured that no student would be admitted without meeting national standards.
On infrastructure, the VC highlighted ongoing partnerships to ensure stable electricity, clean water, and a conducive campus environment. He also revealed that the university website will soon go live to provide public access to institutional updates.
Appreciating stakeholders such as President Bola Tinubu, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa, and the Oluyin of Iyin Ekiti, Oba Ajakaye, Professor Arebisala called for continued support in providing facilities like hostels, lecture halls, and transportation.
“This university will not be just another institution—it will be a hub for producing job creators, not seekers,” he said. “We are setting a new standard in Nigerian higher education.”
