The Government of the Republic of Germany has donated 10 state-of-the-art mobile medical clinics designed to improve the welfare and well-being of officers, recruits, and trainers of the Nigeria Police Force.
Taking delivery of the facilities at the Nigeria Police Central Stores in Lagos , the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, said the initiative is another remarkable milestone in advancing the goals of the police reform project.
Mr. Egbetokun said the mobile clinics equipped with solar power systems, advanced medical equipment, furniture, patient beds, and other essential resources for full functionality, is part of an ongoing Police Reform project.
He noted that the delivery was not merely a gesture of goodwill but a strategic investment in the well-being of police officers, trainees and by extension the communities they served.
The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in Charge of the Department of Training and Development, Mr. Frank Mba who represented Mr. Egbetokun said that the medical facilities would be adequately deployed to police training schools for proper utilisation.

He said the intervention builds upon the successes recorded in the reform project over recent years, in 2023, the delivery of a 2,000 bed capacity mobile barracks significantly alleviated accommodation challenges in our training schools.
He said over 1,500 police personnel, including 600 instructors, have undergone advanced training in contemporary policing practices, with an emphasis on human rights, ethical policing, and community engagement.
He assured the development partners and other stakeholders of the Police Force’s unwavering commitment to their optimal utilisation, maintenance, and sustainability.
Mr. Mba noted that one of the challenges faced by the Police had been the inadequate funding for the upkeep of police infrastructure, leading to the deterioration of critical assets but thanked the federal government for steps taken so far to bridge the gap.

Mr. Mba who represented Mr. Egbetokun said that the police had instituted a robust asset management system including a comprehensive asset register to enable the police to monitor and manage their resources effectively ensuring they remain operational and impactful for many years into the future.
He added that the introduction of the Women Police Leadership Programme stands as testament to their resolve in promoting gender inclusion within the Force, saying the initiative strengthens their capacity to combat sexual and gender-based violence while fostering a culture of equality in organisational framework.
Performing the handover on behalf of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Deputy Consul General, Mr. Gerald Wolf, who reaffirmed his government‘s commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police said by addressing the healthcare needs of police personnel, they are investing in the stability and security of communities across Nigeria.
Günther said the event marked a significant step towards modernising the Nigeria Police, and enhancing welfare standards.
Representative of the United Nations Development Programme, Paul Turayi said that the medical containers would provide critical health-care services to the police and ensure that the police department of training would be given more support particularly in the area of training curriculum in the quest for a reformed police in Nigeria.
Turayi said UNDP believed that the well-being of individuals forms the bedrock of effective institutions, saying the initiative underscores dedication to equipping the Nigeria Police Force with the tools and resources necessary for meaningful police services.
Representative of Global Security-Sector-Reform Foundation, a retired commissioner of police in Germany, Mr. Arno Langanke said they are confident that the project will provide a significant contribution to improving healthcare and emergency care in police training schools and surrounding communities.
“We are delighted that the clinics can now find their final destinations at the preselected police training schools to benefit both the NPF and the local population at the respective locations”
He noted that the mobile container clinics are officially handed over as a product of an intense procurement process, that GS-Foundation was committed to.
The medical clinics project was funded by the Government of the Republic of Germany and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in collaboration with the Global Security Sector Reform Foundation, GS-Foundation.
