Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting journalists as they carry out their constitutional duties of informing, educating, and holding leaders accountable in the country.
Governor Kefas made the pledge when the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Government House in Jalingo.
The Governor acknowledged the critical role of the media in national development and assured the union of his government’s determination to provide an enabling environment for journalists to perform their duties effectively and safely.
Dr. Kefas also commended the NUJ for choosing Taraba State as the host of its National Media Summit scheduled for next month, describing the decision as a reflection of the state’s improved security situation and growing reputation as a stable, investment-friendly destination.
He reiterated that his administration is committed to building enduring structures and completing all ongoing projects initiated by past administrations, in line with his vision for continuity and sustainable development.
The Governor further called on journalists to engage in constructive reporting and maintain a collaborative relationship with the government to advance the collective good of the people.
In his remarks, NUJ President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, expressed appreciation to Governor Kefas for his inclusive governance style, particularly his appointment of journalists into key positions in his administration. He said such action demonstrates the Governor’s confidence in the media as a vital partner in governance and development.
Comrade Yahaya also lauded the Governor’s achievements, especially in the areas of security, education, agriculture, and infrastructure, noting that his interactions with residents of the state revealed widespread satisfaction with the administration’s policies and performance.
As part of activities marking NUJ’s 70th Anniversary, the union conferred on Governor Agbu Kefas the “Security Man of the Year” Award, in recognition of his outstanding efforts in maintaining peace and stability across Taraba State.
