In a landmark event symbolizing progress and development, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday commissioned a suite of major infrastructure projects in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area. The projects include a newly built administrative complex, legislative building, a 400-metre standard road with drainage, and the ongoing Citrus Garden Housing Scheme.
The commissioning ceremony, attended by traditional rulers, political leaders, community stakeholders, and residents, highlighted the administration’s commitment to deepening grassroots development and enhancing governance structures.
Welcoming guests, the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, reflected on the devastating fire incident that razed the old council secretariat in 2020. He noted that rebuilding efforts have since gone beyond restoration to transformation.
“Today, by the grace of God, we have not only rebuilt but elevated these structures into modern, world-class facilities,” Olowa said, describing the new council infrastructure as a symbol of resilience and progress.
Hon. Olowa also enumerated strides made under his leadership in other sectors, including health care, education, vocational training, environmental sustainability, and youth empowerment initiatives.
In his keynote address, Governor Sanwo-Olu commended Hon. Olowa’s leadership, describing him as “an apostle of innovation” who has delivered tangible results through collaboration and vision.
“From the ICT-enabled BAT House to the council’s efficient service delivery mechanisms, the Ibeju-Lekki model is worthy of emulation,” the Governor remarked.
Governor Sanwo-Olu lauded the Executive Chairman for recognizing the importance of legislative collaboration by delivering a dedicated building for the legislature—an arm often overlooked in local governance.
He also praised the completion of the 400-metre standard road, noting its dual-side drainage system as a step toward flood control and sustainable infrastructure. The Governor expressed optimism that the Citrus Garden Housing Scheme would boost employment, promote environmental dignity, and attract further investment to the Ibeju-Lekki axis—described as “a global investment magnet.”
Dignitaries at the ceremony included Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Bayo Balogun; Chief Whip of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mojeed Adebola Fatai; Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat; and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Bolaji Kayode Roberts.
Also in attendance were prominent traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth and student associations, and women leaders, underscoring the broad-based support for the projects and the administration’s inclusive governance approach.
