The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has lauded officers of the Nigeria Formed Police Unit (NFPU) for their exemplary performance while serving under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM). The commendation follows their successful redeployment to new administrative and command duties at the AUSSOM Police and Mission Headquarters in Mogadishu.
The officers, deployed from October 16, 2023, to June 14, 2025, were recently reassigned to undertake administrative and NFPU-12 Command Element responsibilities during a critical period of operational restructuring within the mission. In a letter dated June 12, 2025, addressed to the Inspector-General of Police, the AUSSOM Police Commissioner highlighted the Nigerian officers’ exceptional professionalism, adaptability, and intelligence. Despite being trained primarily for Formed Police Unit operations, the officers swiftly transitioned into Individual Police Officer (IPO) roles with minimal induction, contributing significantly to mission efficiency and continuity.
Among the fifteen officers redeployed are Chief Superintendent of Police Shehu Gani Ahmed, Superintendent of Police Abraham Akhojie, Superintendent of Police Olivia Ugochukwu, Superintendent of Police Aliyu Makwa, Deputy Superintendent of Police Jack Prince, Deputy Superintendent of Police Odey Kingsley Lukpata, Inspector of Police Nwite Sunday, and Sergeant Ayeni Richard. Their contributions were described as vital to the smooth operation of the mission headquarters and were acknowledged by AUSSOM leadership and international peacekeeping stakeholders.
The Inspector-General expressed profound pride in the officers’ achievements, describing them as distinguished representatives of the Nigeria Police Force. He urged them to maintain their unwavering commitment to discipline, professionalism, and service excellence. The IGP also reaffirmed the Force’s dedication to international peacekeeping efforts, emphasizing Nigeria’s continued role in promoting global peace, stability, and cooperation.
