In a significant move to strengthen operational capacity and welfare within the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has commissioned a state-of-the-art Police Mechanical Workshop and a fleet of tactical and operational vehicles. The development marks a key step in enhancing the Force’s readiness to respond to evolving security threats across the country.
At a commissioning ceremony held in Abuja, the IGP unveiled the new Police Mechanical Workshop situated in Dei-Dei, Abuja. The facility, fitted with advanced technology and equipment, is designed to ensure the optimal maintenance and functionality of police vehicles, reduce operational downtime, and support rapid response capabilities.
According to the Nigeria Police Force, the workshop will serve as a critical logistics and maintenance hub, especially for tactical and operational units. It is expected to enhance mobility, improve turnaround time during emergencies, and provide consistent support for nationwide policing efforts.
Also commissioned were 40 tactical and operational vehicles at the Force Headquarters. These include Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs), anti-riot water cannon trucks, and other specialized vehicles aimed at reinforcing the Force’s ability to address internal security challenges effectively.
Reaffirming the commitment of the Nigeria Police to national stability, the IGP issued a stern warning to individuals and groups attempting to destabilize the peace and order of the country.
“We remain committed to the security and unity of Nigeria. Those who think they can threaten the peace and tranquility of this nation should be aware: the Nigeria Police Force is coming for them—strategically, swiftly, and without hesitation,” Egbetokun declared.
The Inspector-General emphasized that these newly commissioned assets will significantly enhance the Force’s tactical advantage, allowing officers to perform their duties with greater efficiency, confidence, and professionalism.
The initiatives are part of broader reforms under the current police administration focused on modernizing infrastructure, improving personnel welfare, and fostering trust between the Force and the communities it serves.
