In a renewed demonstration of commitment to personnel motivation and welfare, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has decorated two outstanding officers, ACP Aliyu Shaba and CSP Sentome Obi as winners of the Police Officer of the Year Award for 2023 and 2024, respectively.
The decoration ceremony, which took place at the IGP Smart Conference Room, Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja, also featured the formal conferment of their new ranks, in line with the Force Management’s resolve to reward excellence.
The development, according to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Department is part of the ongoing efforts to institutionalize merit-based recognition within the Nigeria Police Force. The IGP reiterated that officers who win the Police Officer of the Year Award, the IGP Commendation Award, or any category award for two consecutive years will henceforth be recommended for accelerated promotion.
He charged all officers and men of the Force to embrace hard work, professionalism, and service discipline as the pathway to recognition, adding that the doors of honour remain open to all deserving personnel.
Meanwhile, the IGP also hosted an interactive session with top officials of the National Pension Commission (PenCom) and the NPF Pensions Limited. The PenCom delegation, led by Director-General Ms. Omolola B. Oluworaran and the Managing Director of NPF Pensions Limited, Mr. Kolade Morakinyo, engaged with senior police officers from the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police and above.
The session focused on addressing key concerns regarding the pension and retirement benefits of both serving and retired officers. The IGP expressed optimism that recent reforms and engagements would soon translate into tangible improvements in the post-service conditions of police retirees.
Reaffirming his administration’s vision for a professionally competent, rule of law compliant, and people-friendly police institution, IGP Egbetokun assured all personnel that welfare, both during and after service remains a top priority under his leadership.
