IGP, Housing Minister Partner on Affordable Housing Scheme for Police Officers

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Tuesday hosted the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, as both institutions entered discussions on a new partnership to improve the welfare of police personnel through affordable housing delivery.

The courtesy visit, which also had in attendance the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Shuaib M. L. Belgore, and other senior officials, centred on the establishment of a National Task Force. The task force, to be drawn from relevant ministries and agencies in collaboration with the police, will safeguard federal government lands and assets, in line with the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Dangiwa explained that the initiative became necessary due to increasing cases of encroachment on government lands, which he said have delayed or completely stalled critical national projects. He further disclosed that President Tinubu has approved a landmark housing initiative that will deliver thousands of affordable housing units to police officers nationwide.

The minister commended the Nigeria Police Force for what he described as its “professionalism, resilience, and outstanding service to the nation,” stressing that improved welfare through housing would further strengthen officers’ effectiveness in protecting lives and property.

In his remarks, IGP Egbetokun welcomed the initiative, describing the President’s approval as a timely response to one of the most urgent welfare needs of the police. He noted that adequate housing forms a critical component of officers’ welfare and is essential to sustaining operational effectiveness.

The police chief also pledged the full support of the force for the proposed National Task Force, stressing that reclaiming and protecting encroached federal lands is of urgent national importance. He assured that the police will continue to collaborate with the Housing Ministry and other stakeholders to ensure the success of the initiative in the interest of national development and the well-being of Nigerians, particularly police personnel.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, excellence, and service to the nation, while prioritising the welfare of its officers and men.
