In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking and violent crime, the Kano State Police Command has arrested a notorious drug dealer, Sulaiman Danwawu, 32, of Tudun Yola Quarters.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed the arrest during a press briefing on Thursday, highlighting recent operations carried out by the Command between April 23 and May 9, 2025. Danwawu, previously arrested in 2022 for possession of 500 cartons of suspected Tramadol, was re-apprehended with fresh quantities of illicit substances.
“This arrest is part of our intensified efforts, following the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, to adopt modern and proactive strategies in combating crime and safeguarding lives and property,” CP Bakori stated.
During the two-week period, the Command recorded a series of notable achievements:
Arrests: 5 armed robbery suspects, 7 suspected drug dealers, 1 suspected cattle rustler, 4 suspected fraudsters, 13 suspected thugs (Yan Daba), and several suspected thieves.
Recoveries: 2 Beretta pistols with 10 live rounds, large quantities of illicit drugs including Pregabalin, Diazepam, Tramadol, Codeine, Pentazocine, and Cannabis.
Stolen Property: 8 stolen motor vehicles, 3 tricycles, 2 motorcycles, counterfeit currency comprising 198 fake US dollar notes and N311,000 in Nigerian currency.
CP Bakori noted that the crackdown on drug-related offenses was yielding positive results, with noticeable reductions in cases of phone snatching, thuggery, and car theft within the state.
“These successes are testaments to the effectiveness of our crime prevention strategy. We remain committed to ridding Kano of criminal elements and ensuring a safe environment for all,” he said.
He urged residents to support the police by providing credible information that could help prevent criminal activity, and commended the media and the people of Kano for their continued cooperation.
“We count on your partnership to maintain peace and security in our communities,” Bakori added.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the momentum in the fight against crime and called for strengthened collaboration between law enforcement and the public.
