The Kwara State Government has ordered the immediate reopening of Government High School and Government Day Secondary School, Adeta, in Ilorin West Local Government Area, after a brief closure triggered by recent violent clashes between students.
The announcement was made on Saturday, May 17, by the State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, during a stakeholders’ engagement meeting held at Government High School, Adeta.
Dr. Olohungbebe said the meeting was convened to address the growing incidence of antisocial behaviour among students and to implement sustainable solutions. He confirmed that both schools will resume academic activities on Monday, May 19, 2025.
The Commissioner assured stakeholders that adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment. He urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to collaborate with the government in maintaining order and promoting responsible student conduct.
He also issued a stern warning to students, emphasizing that any involvement in cultism, vandalism, or disruptive behaviour would attract severe disciplinary actions, including expulsion.
Chairman of Ilorin West Local Government Area, Mallam Shehu Abdulrahman Ladan, echoed the Commissioner’s concerns and called on parents to take greater responsibility for the moral upbringing of their children.
Similarly, the Alangua of Adewole, Mallam Yakubu Adewole, pledged the support of traditional and religious institutions in restoring discipline in the schools. He promised to engage local groups to spread the outcomes of the meeting and mobilize collective action.
In a related development, the President of the Adewole Progressive Association, Dr. AbdulRahman Kallah Salman, presented a community-driven proposal focused on strengthening school security and curbing antisocial behaviour among students.
The reopening of the schools marks a critical step in the state government’s broader effort to restore order and uphold academic integrity across Kwara’s public education system.
