In a continued wave of political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, Ngozi Lawrence Okolie, a member of the House of Representatives, has formally defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Okolie, who represents the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency of Delta State, announced his defection in a letter read on the floor of the House by Speaker Dr. Abbas Tajudeen. He cited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s progressive leadership style and the desire to support the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda as key reasons for his move.
“I am committed to the responsibilities of my office and to contributing meaningfully to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu,” Okolie stated.
His defection follows that of six other federal lawmakers from Delta State—Victor Nwokolo, Thomas Ereyitomi, Nicholas Mutu, Julius Pondi, Ukodhiko Jonathan, and Ezechi Nnamdi—who earlier this month moved from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
These defections reflect an ongoing shift within the political landscape as parties position themselves for the 2027 elections.
