As Muslims across the world observe the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, the Lagos State Government has extended warm greetings to the Muslim faithful while reaffirming its commitment to effective traffic management throughout the festive period.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), in a statement issued by its Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, emphasized the spiritual significance of the festival and urged residents to uphold order and cooperation on the roads.
LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, disclosed that the agency has deployed personnel and resources across key traffic corridors and high-traffic zones within the metropolis to ensure seamless vehicular movement.
“Our officers are fully mobilized and strategically positioned at major junctions and flashpoints. They are equipped with towing trucks and rapid-response units to address any obstructions or emergencies swiftly,” Bakare-Oki said.
He cautioned motorists, particularly commercial drivers, against common traffic infractions such as illegal parking, unauthorized passenger loading and drop-offs, and driving against traffic. He stressed that violators will face immediate sanctions, including vehicle impoundment and prosecution by the Lagos State Mobile Court.
To ensure uninterrupted operations regardless of weather conditions, LASTMA officials have been supplied with appropriate gear, including raincoats and safety boots.
Bakare-Oki appealed to all road users to drive responsibly, observe speed limits, and show courtesy to fellow commuters. “We urge residents to obey traffic laws and cooperate with our officers to maintain a peaceful and orderly environment during the festivities,” he said.
