The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered a thorough investigation into allegations made against the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Elemoro Division, as reported in a Vanguard Newspaper article published on April 24, 2025, titled “Power in Wrong Hands: How a Lagos DPO Tried to Jail Two Innocent Mechanics” by Esther Onyegbula.
In response to the allegations, CP Jimoh has constituted a five-member investigative panel chaired by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), with the Officer-in-Charge of Legal Services also included on the committee. The panel has been mandated to submit its findings within one week.
To ensure transparency and eliminate any form of interference, the DPO and other officers linked to the case have been redeployed from Elemoro Division pending the outcome of the investigation.
In a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Commissioner also extended an invitation to the lawyer mentioned in the publication, encouraging him to meet with the committee at his convenience to support the inquiry.
“The Lagos State Police Command does not condone inhumane treatment or miscarriage of justice in any form,” CP Jimoh stated, adding that any officer found culpable will face appropriate disciplinary action to serve as a deterrent.
He urged the public to maintain confidence in the police, assuring that any proven misconduct by officers would be addressed decisively.
