The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five individuals, including a female guardian, in connection with the abduction and illegal sale of a two-week-old baby. The arrest follows a detailed investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) after an initial complaint was filed at the Ajah Division.
The case originated on May 5, 2025, when a man reported that his 16-year-old cousin, Miss Happiness, who had become pregnant, had gone missing along with her newborn. Due to financial hardship, the complainant’s mother had earlier entrusted the pregnant teenager to one Nonye Osi for care and shelter. However, Nonye, in collusion with others, moved the girl to an undisclosed location. When she was later found, the baby was missing.
The SCID’s Gender/Anti-Human Trafficking Unit took over the case and arrested the following suspects for their alleged roles in the child trafficking scheme: Nonye Osi, Akintan Adedayo, Jimoh Bashiru, Elizabeth Bishop, and Bukola Oladapo. Investigations revealed that the group had conspired to sell the infant for Three Million Naira (₦3,000,000.00).
Following intense intelligence-led efforts, detectives located and rescued the baby boy in Agemuwo, Badagry. He was found in good health and is currently under the care of the police, pending his safe reunion with his biological mother.
The Lagos State Police Command reaffirmed its zero tolerance for crimes involving children and vulnerable persons. Investigations into the broader network behind this illegal act are ongoing, as the Command remains resolute in its duty to protect the rights and welfare of all residents.
