The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to people-centered policing, stressing that community partnership remains central to effective crime prevention and public trust.
He stated this during an interactive stakeholders’ meeting held at the POWA Multipurpose Hall, Oduduwa GRA, Ikeja, as part of activities marking the 2025 Customer Service Week. The event brought together members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), traditional rulers, eminent personalities, and community representatives across the state.
In his address, CP Jimoh described the Customer Service Week as a global observance adopted by the Federal Government to strengthen the bond between service providers and the public. He noted that the Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, has fully embraced the initiative as an avenue to engage citizens and reinforce public confidence in policing.
According to the Commissioner, the week-long celebration is designed to foster face-to-face engagement between the police and members of the public, allowing for mutual understanding and feedback. He disclosed that the Command had earlier carried out a medical outreach for Lagos residents, emphasizing that policing is about service to humanity and that “without the people, there can be no police.”
“Community policing means placing the people at the center of policing priorities,” CP Jimoh said. “It is not enough for police officers to draw up plans in isolation. We must listen to the community, understand their challenges, and work with them to find lasting solutions.”
He explained that many conflicts and domestic disputes handled by the police are not necessarily criminal in nature but require timely intervention to prevent escalation. “When we respond to domestic misunderstandings or non-criminal complaints, it is to preserve peace before a situation turns violent or leads to tragedy,” he said.
The Commissioner also assured Lagos residents of a safe and peaceful environment as the ember months progress, noting that security strategies had been reviewed to cater to increased commercial activities and travel during the festive season.
“Lagosians should sleep with their two eyes closed. We have strengthened patrol operations and adopted proactive crime-prevention measures across the state,” he stated.
CP Jimoh commended officers of the Command for their professionalism and discipline, adding that cases of misconduct were being addressed decisively to sustain public trust.
In their responses, participants including members of the PCRC, traditional rulers, and leaders of community associations commended the Lagos State Police Command for significant progress in reducing crime such as robbery, cultism, and thuggery. They, however, urged the police to intensify efforts against “one chance” robberies and the growing menace of drug abuse among youths.
They also pledged continued collaboration with the police through timely information sharing and community sensitization to ensure safety and order across the state.
