The Lagos State Police Command has announced the deployment of extensive security measures ahead of the 2025 Eid el-Kabir celebration to ensure public safety and a peaceful festive season across the state.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, ordered the immediate deployment of police personnel from various tactical units, including the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), EKO Strike Force, Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), Special Protection Unit (SPU), Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), K9 Unit, Mounted Troops, and other operational squads.
These teams will be stationed at strategic locations across Lagos to maintain law and order, deter criminal activities, and protect lives and property.
Focus Areas and Tactical Coverage
Security personnel will provide coverage at Eid prayer grounds, mosques, event venues, recreational centres, and other high-traffic areas. Special anti-crime teams have also been deployed to identified black spots and criminal hideouts to ensure proactive policing and boost public confidence.
Armoured personnel carriers, patrol vehicles, and crowd control measures will be employed to support traffic management and unrestricted movement during the festivities.
Inter-Agency Coordination and Public Cooperation
The Command will work closely with other security and safety agencies including the military, paramilitary units, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and other state departments.
CP Jimoh has mandated officers to discharge their duties with professionalism, courtesy, and respect for human rights, while remaining firm in enforcing the law. He urged Lagosians to be law-abiding and cooperate with the police.
Appeal to Parents, Community Leaders
Parents and guardians are advised to caution their children and wards against engaging in disruptive acts. The Command warns that anyone caught breaching public peace will face the full weight of the law.
Religious leaders, community elders, and opinion shapers are also encouraged to promote peace and tolerance among followers during and after the celebration.
