Lagos Police Inspector Under Investigation for Assaulting Taxi Driver in Ketu

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed an ongoing investigation into a disturbing incident involving Inspector Obic Modestus, who was filmed assaulting a taxi driver in public. The incident occurred on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at approximately 11:40 a.m. in the Ketu area of Lagos.

Inspector Modestus, attached to the Ketu Division, has been identified and brought before the Command’s Complaint Response Unit (CRU). He has since been transferred to the Provost Department for detention and an orderly room trial in line with the internal disciplinary procedures of the Nigeria Police Force. The outcome of the trial will be made public.

Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, reiterated the Command’s zero-tolerance policy for misconduct and acts of incivility by police officers. He emphasized that such actions are inexcusable and do not reflect the core values of the Nigeria Police Force.

“The Lagos State Police Command remains committed to ensuring that professionalism, accountability, and respect for the rights and dignity of all residents are upheld,” the Commissioner stated.

The Command assured the public that a thorough investigation is ongoing and appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken to ensure justice.
