The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has reaffirmed that the Command is fully prepared to maintain peace and security across Lagos, particularly around strategic infrastructure including the Third Mainland Bridge. The assurance followed a “Show of Force” operation carried out on Friday, amid public concerns after activist Omoyele Sowore announced plans to mobilize a protest around the bridge.
Addressing journalists during the exercise, CP Jimoh explained that the operation was aimed at reinforcing public confidence and deterring any activities capable of disrupting the peace. He noted that the command had been implementing continuous security surveillance and deployments across major corridors in the state for several weeks.
The Commissioner stated that Sowore has been declared wanted for allegedly attempting to instigate unrest and obstruct public movement within Lagos. According to him, directives have been issued to all police formations within the state to arrest him if sighted “anywhere, whether in transit, on foot, or at any public location.”
“He is known for these antics. If he has any grievances, there are legitimate and lawful channels to express them,” CP Jimoh said. “Security of residents is paramount, and we will not allow any action that threatens public peace.”
The Commissioner also clarified that there was no total closure of the Berger/Oworonshoki corridor, explaining that traffic adjustments were only temporary to prevent obstruction and safeguard commuters. He added that alternative routes were provided, with traffic personnel and LASTMA officers deployed to ease movement.
Speaking on preparations ahead of the festive season, CP Jimoh stated that Lagos Police have already activated a comprehensive ember months security plan, including special deployments in uniform and plain clothes, intelligence-led patrols, and ongoing raids on criminal hideouts.
He emphasized that residents should go about their lawful activities without fear, assuring that Lagos remains safe and fully under security control.
