The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and arraigned a 39-year-old man, Best Orji, over allegations of defiling his two underage daughters, aged 14 and 12.
The arrest followed a report lodged by the victims’ mother in the Surulere area of Lagos. Confirming the development, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the suspect, who is the biological father of the children, was promptly taken into custody and that the girls were referred to a Sexual Assault Referral Center for medical evaluation.
SP Hundeyin reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to protect the most vulnerable members of society. He also stated that the police, under Commissioner Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, are intensifying efforts to curb crimes across the state through strategic deployment of resources.
He urged Lagos residents to remain vigilant and report any signs of abuse or suspicious activity to law enforcement.
Meanwhile, in a separate case, police are investigating an alleged group assault on a 15-year-old girl in the Amukoko area of Lagos.
According to police sources, the incident occurred on April 27. The teenager reported that a young man identified as Kalid invited her from Orile to Yusuf Esan Street in Amukoko. Upon arrival, she was allegedly assaulted by Kalid and seven others.
Acting on her report, detectives swiftly moved to the scene and arrested three suspects: Awali Alabi (20), Saliu Anafi (18), and Basit Nurudeen (16). The other suspects fled and remain at large.
The victim has received medical care at the General Hospital in Suru-Alaba, while the police continue efforts to track down the fleeing suspects. The Command stated that the arrested individuals are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
Authorities are calling on members of the public to come forward with any information that could aid in the case, as the search for justice continues.
