The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed media reports alleging that the Commissioner of Police defied a court order in relation to activities at the Nestoil premises, describing the claims as false, misleading, and mischievously crafted to misinform the public.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Command clarified that the court order referenced in the reports was formally received at about 5:50pm on Thursday, November 20, 2025, and was immediately forwarded to the Police Legal Department for verification. According to the statement, confirmation of the order’s authenticity was received the following evening, after which all police personnel at the location were withdrawn without delay on November 21, 2025, in full compliance with the directive.
The Command expressed shock that, despite this prompt adherence, some media platforms circulated claims suggesting that the Commissioner of Police disregarded the court order. It stressed that at no point did the Commissioner visit the Nestoil premises on the said dates, nor did the Police obstruct the enforcement of any judicial directive.
Clarifying its role, the Command emphasized that the Police do not have the authority to seal premises under any circumstances. Their responsibility, as mandated by law, is strictly to provide security for court sheriffs and other officials during the enforcement of court orders, and to maintain peace and public order.
The Command further urged all parties involved in the legal dispute to focus on their case before the courts rather than attempting to draw the Police into the controversy. It described the reports as an attempt to create a false narrative and undermine public confidence in the neutrality and professionalism of the Police.
Reassuring the public, SP Adebisi reaffirmed the Lagos State Police Command’s unwavering commitment to the rule of law, strict obedience to court directives, and adherence to all legal procedures in the discharge of its duties.
