The Lagos State Police Command on Sunday staged a post-election show of force across key areas of the state, as results from Saturday’s local government elections continue to emerge.
The exercise, led by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, covered several locations including Ikeja, Ifako, Iyana Oworo, Bariga, Somolu, Akoka, and the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) headquarters in Yaba.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts by the police to maintain public order and prevent any post-election unrest. It also served as a visible demonstration of the Command’s readiness to respond to any threat that may arise during the collation and announcement of results.
During the visit to LASIEC, Mr. Jimoh held a closed-door meeting with the commission’s leadership and also re-briefed police supervisors on expected response protocols in case of unexpected developments. Though the details of the meeting were not disclosed, it is understood to have focused on reinforcing security coordination in the final stages of the electoral process.
The Crown News observed the deployment of advanced operational assets and a significant presence of both armed and conventional officers, underscoring the Command’s determination to ensure a peaceful outcome to the elections.
The Lagos State Police Command has urged residents to remain calm, comply with all laws, and report any suspicious activity through designated emergency lines, assuring the public of sustained security across all local government areas.
