The Lagos State Government has achieved significant progress in safety, security, and emergency response, reinforcing its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Mr. Olugbenga Oyerinde, disclosed this during the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing held at Alausa, Ikeja, to mark Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s sixth year in office.
Highlighting key achievements, Oyerinde revealed that the state strengthened its security architecture by integrating the Nigerian Forest Security Service and recruiting 100 officers to patrol border communities. In a further boost, allowances for security operatives were doubled, and 320 essential tools—including bulletproof vests, batons, and raincoats—were distributed to frontline personnel.
Over 1,000 officers were also recruited into specialized units of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps. These units include marine security, anti-human trafficking, and crowd control. Additionally, aerial surveillance systems have been deployed to improve intelligence gathering and operational efficiency.
On emergency management, the Commissioner noted that the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) responded to more than 2,000 incidents between January 2024 and March 2025. The agency treated 707 medical cases, rescued nearly 5,000 accident victims, and provided relief support to over 5,000 residents in Isheri North and Agiliti II affected by flooding linked to the Oyan Dam.
“These milestones reflect Governor Sanwo-Olu’s unwavering commitment to proactive governance and the safety of all Lagosians,” Oyerinde stated.
