The Lagos State Police Command says the state has recorded remarkable security improvements in recent months, with violent crimes declining and several criminal operations foiled across different parts of the state. A series of proactive deployments, covert patrols and reinforced tactical units have reportedly helped to keep Lagos stable throughout the Ember Months.
According to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, the Command introduced new crime-prevention and control strategies that have yielded “measurable and sustained successes” in protecting residents, visitors and critical infrastructure. He noted that the Command has been working closely with community stakeholders, local councils and private citizens to strengthen intelligence gathering and rapid response capabilities.
During a press conference in Lagos, the CP said operatives recovered 10 exotic vehicles, including stolen Range Rover, Toyota Land Cruiser, Lexus GX460, Toyota Corolla and Toyota Highlander models, many of which were taken away by newly employed drivers or car-wash attendants. He warned residents to avoid leaving car keys in the custody of car-wash operators, noting that several recent cases were inside jobs.
Also displayed were locally made firearms, ammunition, machetes, an axe, a dagger, charms and fake foreign currencies worth $4,000, all recovered during ongoing operations to suppress criminal gangs. A Bajaj motorcycle allegedly used during an attempted robbery was also seized.
The Lagos Police Command said heavy deployments have been made across recreation centres, highways, schools, religious centres and known blackspots as the festive season approaches. Daily convoy patrols, stop-and-search points, “nip-points,” and show-of-force operations have been intensified to sustain peace as residents prepare for end-of-year movements.
CP Jimoh further highlighted the growing impact of the Eko Strike Force, a specialised intervention unit created by the Inspector General of Police to respond swiftly to flashpoints across Lagos. He said the unit complements the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and has significantly enhanced covert and overt policing efforts across the metropolis.
The police chief assured Lagos residents and visitors especially those travelling for the festive season that the state remains safe, stable and fully covered by security operatives. Tactical teams, according to him, will continue to work round-the-clock into the New Year to ensure the protection of lives, property and major economic assets.
He applauded members of the public and the media for their cooperation and urged journalists to continue providing accurate information that supports public safety while drawing attention to areas requiring prompt police intervention.
