Lagos State Disburses Over ₦2 Billion in Direct Aid, Empowers Thousands Through Social Welfare Initiatives

The Lagos State Government has disbursed over ₦2 billion to 8,690 residents in the past year through the Sanwo-Olu Listens Financial Assistance Programme, a flagship social welfare initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable citizens.

This was revealed by Dr. Tajudeen Afolabi, Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, during the Ministerial Press Briefing held to mark the second anniversary of the Governor’s second term in office.

Dr. Afolabi described the financial assistance scheme as a “symbol of compassion and inclusion,” emphasizing its role in delivering direct relief and restoring hope to thousands of economically disadvantaged Lagosians.

In addition to the cash disbursement programme, the Eko Cares initiative empowered over 6,000 vulnerable entrepreneurs, equipping them with tools and support to establish sustainable sources of income for their families.

He further noted that the state committed more than ₦400 million to the Mother, Infant and Child Development programme, while the Snacks for Thought initiative has ensured the provision of daily meals to public school students across Lagos.

To enhance public engagement and improve service delivery, Dr. Afolabi highlighted that the state received over 400,000 feedback entries via the Citizens Gate platform in the past year, enabling more responsive governance and improved citizen participation.
