The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has commenced a sweeping enforcement campaign across the metropolis to tackle growing traffic indiscipline, restore road sanity, and reclaim public spaces from illegal occupation.
The statewide operation, led by LASTMA General Manager Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, began on Thursday and targets high-traffic areas plagued by congestion and lawlessness, including Oyingbo, Iddo, Eja-Lonibu, Adeniji Adele, Sabo, Jibowu (Inter-State Terminal), and Oshodi.
In the first phase of enforcement, LASTMA impounded 235 vehicles for violations of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018. The impounded vehicles include: 156 commercial buses (Danfo), 38 private vehicles, 19 minibuses and tricycles, 17 inter-state passenger buses and 5 haulage trucks.
Offences ranged from illegal parking and obstruction of traffic to the creation of unauthorized terminals and disregard for traffic rules.
In a notable incident, five articulated trucks were intercepted atop the Adeniji Adele Bridge while offloading livestock—including cows and rams—as well as abattoir waste. The act posed serious environmental and structural risks. The drivers face prosecution for sanitation and traffic violations.
10 miscreants linked to illegal transport operations and public nuisance were also arrested during the operation.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, mandated the operation as part of Lagos State’s broader urban renewal and mobility reform agenda. The campaign spans all five administrative divisions—Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos Island, and Epe.
“This is not targeted at any group or business interest. It’s about restoring order and protecting the public interest,” said Bakare-Oki.
“There is now zero tolerance for traffic offences. All impounded vehicles will face prosecution in the Lagos State Mobile Court.”
He added that LASTMA is deploying a combination of regulatory, operational, and digital surveillance tools to ensure compliance and sustainability.

This enforcement drive forms part of the Lagos State Government’s wider urban regeneration strategy to improve road efficiency, environmental hygiene, and overall livability across the State.
