The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has commenced a comprehensive two-week on-the-job training (OJT) program for Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel (ATSEPs) at its Lagos, Abuja, and Kano facilities.
The specialized training is designed to equip participants with practical, hands-on skills essential for the installation, operation, and maintenance of critical infrastructure that supports seamless communication, navigation, and surveillance (CNS) across Nigeria’s airspace.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NAMA, Mr. Abdullahi Musa, the training covers an extensive range of systems managed by the agency’s Department of Communication, Navigation, Surveillance, and Power Systems.
Participants will gain in-depth experience working alongside seasoned supervisors on key components such as Automatic Mains Failure (AMF) systems, Automatic Voltage Regulators (AVRs), Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units, solar power systems, cooling systems, and generating sets. Additional modules include welding, installation of air-conditioning compressors, and solar power maintenance.
The training also emphasizes preventive and corrective maintenance of vital infrastructure to ensure operational reliability and efficiency.
NAMA’s Managing Director, Mr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to capacity building as a critical pillar in maintaining safe and efficient air traffic services. He noted that the OJT initiative aligns with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs), and is aimed at ensuring optimal performance of CNS infrastructure nationwide.
“This initiative is a proactive investment in human capital that directly supports the safety and efficiency of air navigation services across Nigeria,” Umar said.
The program is expected to significantly enhance the technical proficiency of ATSEPs, ensuring uninterrupted power supply and the continued reliability of NAMA’s air traffic management systems.
