The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and an unregistered motorcycle in what it described as a significant breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to combat armed criminal activity within the state.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the operation was carried out by officers from the Giza Division in Keana Local Government Area following actionable intelligence received by the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed.
On June 7, 2025, at approximately 4:00 p.m., the Command received credible information regarding a suspected criminal allegedly transporting arms along the Giza-Kadarko axis. Acting swiftly, CP Mohammed ordered a targeted manhunt and directed officers to conduct a stop-and-search operation along the suspected route.
During the operation, officers intercepted a suspicious individual riding an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle. The suspect, however, abandoned the motorcycle and fled into a nearby bush upon being flagged down for questioning, evading arrest.
A thorough search of the abandoned motorcycle led to the recovery of:
One (1) AK-47 rifle (Breach No. 0413)
Two (2) magazines
Forty-five (45) rounds of 7.62x39mm live ammunition
Police authorities believe the recovered items are linked to planned criminal activities, and investigations are ongoing to trace the suspect, determine the source of the weapon, and uncover any possible network.
“The recovery is a testament to the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and our officers’ commitment to maintaining internal security,” the statement noted. “Efforts are being intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspect and ensure justice is served.”
The Command has urged residents of Nasarawa State to remain alert and continue cooperating with law enforcement by reporting any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station or through established emergency contacts.
