The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has established six Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Parks across the country to promote digital innovation, entrepreneurship, and national economic transformation.
The initiative was announced by Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, during the formal handover of one of the facilities to the Federal University of Transport Technology (FUTT) in Daura, Katsina State.
Dr. Maida explained that the ICT parks are designed as incubation hubs for indigenous technological solutions, in line with the federal government’s policy to harness the economic potential of Nigeria’s growing digital ecosystem.
“Technology is the biggest driver of economic growth and development in the 21st century. For Nigeria, it is our greatest hope for economic transformation,” Dr. Maida said. “These ICT parks aim to promote innovation and digital entrepreneurship while supporting research that turns ideas into market-ready solutions.”
Each ICT park is equipped with high-speed, high-capacity computers, smart networking systems, and simulation rooms to foster research and socio-economic development. The facility in Daura features five ICT hub halls, a 24-seater laboratory with eight double computer workstations, a 100-seater multipurpose hall, and several collaborative workspaces and offices.
Dr. Maida emphasized the park’s alignment with the university’s academic focus, particularly in railway, marine, and air transport engineering.
“Our goal is to create a technology ecosystem that enhances advanced education in logistics and transportation, while fostering cutting-edge research and skill development,” he noted.
He encouraged students, researchers, and the wider Daura community to fully utilize the facility to drive local innovation and build sustainable technological solutions.
In his response, Prof. Umar Katsayal, Vice Chancellor of FUTT, expressed gratitude to the NCC and pledged to deploy the facility for training, research, and simulation exercises.
“As custodians of this facility, we are committed to safeguarding it and ensuring it serves its intended academic and developmental purposes,” he said.
The establishment of the ICT parks reflects the NCC’s broader mandate to support Nigeria’s digital economy through infrastructure development, capacity building, and public-private innovation partnerships.
