The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Lagos State Chapter, has entered into a strategic partnership with the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to bolster the protection of the rights of vulnerable populations, including women, children, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and individuals living with HIV, tuberculosis, and other health-related challenges.
This collaboration was solidified during a courtesy visit on Thursday, May 8, 2025, by the Lagos State Coordinator of the NHRC, Mr. Lucas Koyejo, to the Lagos NSCDC Commandant, Mr. Adedotun Keshinro.
Mr. Koyejo emphasized the importance of joint efforts in preventing the discrimination and criminalization of marginalized groups. “There is an urgent need to work together to shield vulnerable individuals from violations of their rights and ensure they are not subjected to further marginalization,” he said.
In response, Commandant Keshinro expressed appreciation for the NHRC’s visit and reaffirmed the NSCDC’s commitment to human rights and gender sensitivity. He noted that the Corps integrates these values in both internal operations and public engagements.
The Commandant also highlighted ongoing collaborations with other security agencies aimed at streamlining investigative processes and enhancing the efficiency of criminal justice procedures.
As part of the new partnership, both agencies agreed to collaborate on capacity-building initiatives, rights enforcement strategies, and public sensitization efforts focused on safeguarding vulnerable groups in Lagos State.
This alliance marks a significant step in strengthening human rights protection and inter-agency cooperation in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
