The Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil Kano, has continued its tradition of grooming future officers with strategic insights as it hosted Commissioner of Police Abayomi Shogunle for its ongoing Strategic Lecture Series.
The session, held on Thursday, was presided over by the Academy’s Commandant, AIG Patrick A. Atayero. It featured a thought-provoking lecture by CP Shogunle, who currently oversees the Special Intervention Squad (SIS), School Protection Squad, and Elections Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation.
Speaking on the theme of mental, physical, and emotional health as well as the dangers of illicit drug use, CP Shogunle emphasized the importance of discipline, wellness, and professional integrity in policing. He warned that drug abuse remains a growing threat to both society and security institutions if left unchecked.
The Commissioner, a seasoned administrator and scholar, drew on his vast operational and academic experience to highlight practical strategies for officers to maintain resilience under pressure. His lecture, described by cadets as engaging and interactive, underscored the role of mental and emotional stability in effective law enforcement.
The lecture formed part of the Strategic Lecture Series, an initiative introduced under the leadership of Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun to strengthen police training with real-world perspectives. The series is designed to equip cadets with modern approaches to policing that blend ethics, professionalism, and operational efficiency.
Commandant Atayero reaffirmed that the Academy remains committed to producing police officers who embody both academic excellence and moral discipline. He stressed that preparing officers for modern challenges requires attention not only to tactical readiness but also to their physical and psychological well-being.
The Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil–Kano, remains the country’s foremost institution for developing future leaders of the force, and the Commandant noted that lectures like this ensure cadets are better prepared for the complexities of policing in a rapidly changing society.
